McAfee EXTEND.DAT Error
When opening Microsoft Outlook, an error message is displayed. The exact error message varies between Outlook versions, but will be similar to one of the following:
* The add-in <install path>scanemal.dll could not be installed or loaded The add-in <install path>scanemal.dll could not be found Unable to load <install path>scanemal.dll You may be out of memory out of system resources, or missing a dll.file Could not load plugin <install path>Scanemal.xxxxxxx.dll
The above also applies to the file: ScanOtlk.dll
* The Add-in “Outlook Scan” (<install path>Scanotlk.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Uninstall the Add-in if no update is available.
The best way I have found of dealing with this is to delete the EXTEND.dat file and let Outlook re-create the file.
First make sure Outlook is completely closed and then locate the file EXTEND.dat in the below locations:
documents and Settings<userprofile>local settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlook
Start Outlook and the error message should be gone and EXTEND.dat will create itself.
